Meeting Companion
Meeting Companion is available on eligible organisation plans and is turned on by your administrator. If you don’t see it, your organisation may not have enabled it yet.
Most tools measure your English while you practise. Meeting Companion goes a step further: it evaluates your English speaking performance during real workplace meetings on Zoom and Google Meet across pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and intonation, and connects what it finds back to targeted ELSA practice.
1. How Meeting Companion works
Meeting Companion closes the loop between what you practise and how your English shows up at work:
Practice => Perform => Measure => Improve => Practice
You build workplace English in ELSA, Meeting Companion measures how that English performs in a real meeting, and the results point you back to the practice that will help most, then the cycle repeats.
2. What it measures
For each scored meeting, Meeting Companion evaluates five skills and an overall speaking score:
Pronunciation
Fluency
Grammar
Vocabulary
Intonation
It focuses only on your English speaking performance. It does not score the meeting itself, and it does not evaluate other participants.
3. Where to find your results
Your meetings list shows each meeting with its date, length, platform, and whether it was scored.
Open a meeting to see your Overall Speaking Score, the five-skill breakdown, a Coach insight telling you what to work on next, and how your result compares to IELTS, TOEFL, and CEFR.
Your Progress screen pulls it together: a Skills Breakdown, a Meeting Summary (your speaking/meeting time and meetings completed), and Progress History. Use the Week / Month / Quarter / Year tabs to change the time range.
4. Why some meetings show “No score”
Not every meeting is scored. To generate a valid score, you need to speak for at least 30 seconds in that meeting. If you spoke less than that, the meeting will show No score (or N/A on the detail screen).
Two terms that help explain this:
Scored meeting: a meeting that produced a valid English score. This isn’t the same as every meeting on your calendar.
Speaking time: the time you actually spoke, not the total length of the meeting.
5. Meeting Companion EPS vs Practice EPS
You may see two ELSA Proficiency Scores (EPS):
Meeting Companion EPS: your English speaking score from scored meetings.
ELSA Practice EPS: your performance from practising in ELSA.
These are calculated independently and shown side by side so you can compare how your English performs in practice versus in real meetings. Your Meeting Companion EPS is not currently combined into your overall ELSA EPS.
6. Privacy & your controls
Your organisation connects Zoom or Google Meet and enables Meeting Companion for eligible learners.
You are notified when Meeting Companion capture applies to a meeting.
You can pause or opt out of analysis on a per-meeting basis unless your organisation has locked the analysis policy.
Only your speech is scored; other participants are not evaluated.
Meeting data is used to generate your English scores and feedback. It is not sold, and it is not used to train generalized or standalone AI models.
How we use Google data
When you connect a Google account, Elsa Meeting Companion requests read-only access to your Google Calendar (to detect upcoming meetings), Google Meet space metadata (to join the correct call), and Google Meet audio (to analyze the conversation and generate your private speaking feedback). We use this data solely to deliver the speaking-improvement feature described above and surface it only to you. We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never use it to train generalized AI models.
How we use Zoom data
When you connect Zoom — either individually via the user-managed OAuth app or through a workspace-level install by your admin — Elsa Meeting Companion requests a least-privilege scope set covering your Zoom meetings, participant lists, cloud recordings, and basic profile. Most scopes are read-only; two are narrow write scopes used solely to attach the Meeting Companion bot to your call or start cloud recording when required. We use that data solely to detect your meetings, capture the recording after the call, and generate your private speaking feedback. Zoom cloud recordings are downloaded, analyzed, and then subject to your retention policy. We never sell Zoom data, never use it for advertising, and never use it to train generalized AI models.

Frequently asked questions
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
Which meeting platforms are supported? | Meeting Companion currently supports Zoom and Google Meet. |
Do I have to connect my own account? | No. Meeting Companion can be enabled by an administrator at the Google Workspace or Zoom level, so eligible learners get feedback without setting up their own integration. |
How does it capture my speech? | A companion joins supported Zoom and Google Meet calls to capture your speech for scoring after the meeting. Hosts or participants may need to admit the companion to the call. |
Can I pause Meeting Companion? | Yes. You keep controls to pause processing, even when your organisation manages the workspace integration (unless the policy is locked). |
Does ELSA analyse everyone in the meeting? | No. It generates personalised speaking feedback only for you, the enrolled learner — it does not evaluate other participants. |
How quickly is feedback available? | Feedback typically becomes available within a few minutes after the meeting. |
Does every meeting generate a score? | No. You need at least 30 seconds of speaking time for a valid score to be generated. |
Does my Meeting Companion EPS affect my Practice EPS? | No. The two are calculated independently and shown side by side; Meeting Companion EPS is not currently weighted into your overall ELSA EPS. |
